The Importance of Having Health Insurance

No should ever be without health insurance because unforeseen medical care and emergency services can hit anyone at anytime. Even though it is not required by state and federal laws in the way that automotive insurance is, health insurance is perhaps the more important that auto insurance. Yet there are more people that are not covered by a health insurance policy than are covered in this country.
With the rising costs of healthcare coverage moving up throughout the country many employers are lowering or dropping the amount of coverage a health insurance provider will cover. In some areas of the country health insurance companies are offering group coverage plans that allow employers to cover the costs of their employee policies by combining several companies under the same covered healthcare.

Because costs of coverage have risen, some companies are unable to provide health insurance benefits to their employees. Finding affordable coverage can prevent financial ruin and bankruptcy for those that may be stricken with a catastrophic illness.
A few years ago a man in his thirties was diagnosed with a very rare form of leukemia. He had recently changed health insurance carriers to save money on his policy when he found himself in an intensive care unit at the hospital where he spent ten days under the watchful eyes of doctors and nurses. The hospital stay alone cost $110,000 for the brief but necessary stay.

After determining that the illness was not a preexisting condition the health insurance carrier paid for the medical expenses that were incurred during the ten day hospital visit. The man and his family had only to cover the $1,000 health insurance deductible. With proper health insurance coverage this family would have been financially responsible for the entire hospital bill. Unable to work because of his illness the family would most likely have had to file bankruptcy to escape the crushing debt of the mounting medical bills. Prior to his diagnosis this man was in good health and had no history of leukemia in his family. In fact he was rarely ill at all and not needed to see a doctor since his youth.
Planning for unknown and unexpected medical emergencies is what health insurance is all about. Finding a policy the can give the right health insurance coverage and peace of mind to families, individuals and businesses takes research and patience, but the rewards of finding affordable health insurance speak for themselves.
